LASEK, explained in one minute
LASEK (also called surface ablation, similar to PRK) gently moves aside the thin surface layer of the cornea, reshapes the cornea underneath with an excimer laser, and protects the eye with a soft bandage lens while the surface heals.
Because no flap is created, LASEK keeps more of the cornea’s strength and is often recommended for thinner corneas, irregular surfaces or people who play contact sports.

Who LASEK suits
LASEK may be recommended if you:
- Have thinner corneas or an irregular corneal surface
- Are not suitable for LASIK or SMILE
- Play contact sports or have a physically active job
- Are 18 or older with a stable prescription
- Have no active eye disease or infection
Final eligibility is decided only after a comprehensive eye examination at BGSS.
Your LASEK (PRK) trip to Busan
BGSS is a registered facility for international patients. Our coordinators speak English and Chinese and arrange your schedule before you arrive. Appointments are by reservation only.

Corneal thickness, shape, prescription and tear film are measured, followed by a consultation.
Both eyes are usually treated together. A soft bandage lens protects your eyes while the surface heals.
Your doctor removes the bandage lens and checks healing. Timing varies by person.
Plan to stay in Busan until your bandage lens is removed and your doctor confirms you can travel. Confirm flight dates with your coordinator.

What is LASEK eye surgery?
LASEK is a surface laser vision correction procedure. The thin surface layer of the cornea is moved aside, the cornea is reshaped with an excimer laser, and a bandage lens protects the eye while it heals. No flap is created.
Is LASEK the same as PRK?
They are closely related surface treatments. Both reshape the cornea without a flap; they differ mainly in how the surface layer is handled.
What is 2DAY LASEK?
2DAY LASEK is BGSS’s premium LASEK, combining the MEL-90 laser, autologous serum eye drops and other techniques so most patients can return to daily life from about 48 hours.
Is LASEK good for thin corneas?
Often yes. Because no flap is made, LASEK can be possible when the cornea is too thin for LASIK or SMILE. Your doctor confirms this after measuring your cornea.
Does LASEK hurt?
Surgery is done under numbing drops. Some discomfort and light sensitivity in the first days is common; 2DAY LASEK is designed to reduce it.
When is the bandage lens removed?
Usually around day 3, at a clinic visit. Timing varies by person.
