Dry eye disease, explained in one minute
Dry eye is a condition in which the tear film cannot keep the eye’s surface moist and protected, because the eye makes too few tears or the tears evaporate too quickly. Most cases involve meibomian gland dysfunction, where the oil glands in the eyelids become blocked.
Symptoms include burning, grittiness, redness, watering, blurred vision that clears with blinking, and tired eyes after screen use. Long hours on screens, contact lenses, air-conditioning, age and previous eye surgery can all make it worse.
At BGSS, treatment starts with measurement. Questionnaires and imaging show whether the problem is tear quantity, tear quality or eyelid inflammation, so therapy can be matched to the cause.

Does IPL hurt?
Most people feel only a brief warm flash. Protective eye shields are used during treatment.
